Self Guided Learning in Newark - CPR BLS, ACLS, and PALS Courses

Healthcare professionals in Newark, CA now have a faster, more flexible way to complete American Heart Association® BLS, ACLS, and PALS training. Safety Training Seminars, located at 8407 Central Ave, Suite 2034, offers Self-Guided Learning™ courses that combine self-paced online learning with an independent skills session at a CPR Verification Station™ learning center—no fixed class times, no instructor required.

Whether you work at Washington Hospital (2000 Mowry Ave, Fremont) or Kaiser Permanente Fremont Medical Center (39400 Paseo Padre Pkwy, Fremont), this training format fits your schedule. Here’s how it works and why it’s worth considering.

Self-Guided Learning in Newark

What Is a Self-Guided Learning Course?

Self-Guided Learning™ courses for BLS, ACLS, and PALS from the American Heart Association combine two components:

  1. Self-paced online cognitive learning — completed independently on any compatible device, anytime
  2. A self-guided skills session — completed in person at the CPR Verification Station™ learning center at the Newark location

Both components are required. Once you successfully complete both, you receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard for BLS, ACLS, or PALS.

This approach is designed for healthcare professionals—nurses, physicians, paramedics, EMTs, dental professionals, and allied health workers—who need flexible training that still meets American Heart Association standards.

How the Online Learning Works

The online portion uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum. This technology evaluates your existing knowledge in real time and adjusts the content path based on your responses.

In practical terms, that means:

  • Experienced providers skip content they already know
  • Newer learners receive targeted feedback on knowledge gaps
  • Everyone follows a personalized learning pathway, not a one-size-fits-all course

You can pause, resume, and review content anytime. The BLS online course takes 1–2 hours. ACLS and PALS each take 2–3 hours. You can start at home, finish during a break between shifts, or complete it at a café near NewPark Mall—your schedule, your pace.

How the Skills Session Works

After completing the online learning activity, you visit the CPR Verification Station™ learning center at the Newark site near Central Ave & Cedar Blvd, just off I-880.

During the 30-minute skills session, you perform required hands-on skills independently using simulation technology. The station provides:

  • Real-time, objective performance feedback on compression depth, rate, recoil, and ventilation
  • Objective measurement against AHA guidelines — no instructor subjectivity
  • The ability to repeat skills practice as needed until you meet the passing standard

No instructor evaluates or coaches you during the session. The CPR Verification Station learning center objectively measures your performance against AHA-defined criteria.

One learner described the Newark location this way: “There were 2 stations available in a room surrounded by glass. I felt safe being able to see around the room and not feel locked in a windowless room. The equipment worked as needed.”

Who Should Take These Courses?

Self-Guided Learning™ courses work best for:

  • Healthcare professionals who can’t attend scheduled classroom events
  • Students starting clinical rotations at nearby facilities like Washington Hospital or Kaiser Permanente Fremont Medical Center
  • Renewal learners who need an updated American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, or PALS Provider eCard quickly
  • Remote or rural workers in the Fremont, Union City, and Hayward area who need local training access

The Newark training center serves learners from across Alameda County—including those commuting from areas near the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge and Ardenwood Historic Farm—who want a convenient, close-to-home option without long travel times.
